Sonneteer

Sonneteer was conceived of by fine artist and photographer Doug Fogelson. The concept was simple: a book of nine chapters, each one a visual meditation on an element of the built environment – infrastructure, apertures, construction, roads, pathways, sprawl, fences, electricity, and restitution. Every chapter reflected the structure of a sonnet. The 14 rhyming couplets became 14 facing pages. The visual equivalent of iambic pentameter was left up to interpretation. I was one of nine designers invited to participate.

After completing the chapter on sprawl, I began work on the cover and design of the book as a whole. As a creative partner in the project, I was lucky enough to know author Ingrid Rojas, who graciously contibuted an original essay on the built environment.

Sonneteer was published in a perfect-bound softcover edition by Front Forty Press. It was a USA Book News and London Book Festival finalist.
