Olivia’s Market is an established specialty grocer in the Bucktown neighborhood. I’d shopped there long before speaking with the owners about their digital customer experience, and was struck by the character of the space the first time I walked in. The store’s branding and interior design balanced warmth, character and modernism. While the project originated based on the need for a responsive mobile site, it opened up a larger opportunity to bring the in-store experience to life through photography.

Before the design process began, I scouted with DSLR in hand, capturing an initial series of architectural interiors and product vignettes. These images capture rough-hewn wood beams, warm lighting and carefully curated merchandise. Layouts were develpoed with the prelimnary series of images as placeholders, allowing the owners to see how their store came to life in greater fidelity with each round of design. Capturing high-resolution images early also allowed us to go deeper in two official shoot days that followed.
